I have been doing art since my school years and during math class, I would rather draw in my notebook. It was also common for me to win the few art competitions I entered during high school. Of course when you get older, you have more responsibilities and less time on your hands, so for a few years, art wasn’t a priority. However in 2011, I started to pick up the pencil and paintbrush again.
That year, I reached out to an eyewear designer and celebrity stylist named Stevie Boi. I sent him a hand painted shirt, which later led to us collaborating a few months later. I created a series of hand painted shirts, which were featured in his runway show at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week.
2012 was when I wanted to concentrate on my art even more. That year I held two solo art exhibitions and produced the most work that I ever had in years. I also began to gain an interest in live art and thought it was something that I should try. I performed some live pieces at my exhibitions and the response was overwhelming. I then realized that this was something that I should concentrate on.
2013 is the year that art is my main focus and I plan on making this my full time job. Already I have been involved in a theatrical show, performing live art and I don’t plan on stopping there. I look forward to writing more about my journey as an artist, so continue to watch this space.
